21 Brilliant Organizing Hacks for a Small House
Organizing a small house can undoubtedly present its challenges. Many of us find ourselves sifting through countless ideas on the internet, searching for inspiration or solutions to specific problems. Often, we need to think outside the box to make the most of our limited space. Here, I’ve compiled a collection of my own ideas and findings to help you effectively organize your small home.

Open shelves: Open shelving (when organized) does exactly that, makes things look more open while still giving you extra storage. Try to stay away from putting a bunch of stuff in baskets though, its just a slippery slope to disorganization.

Hanging pots and pans: When you don’t have a lot of kitchen cabinet space you can always utilize underneath your cabinets. Hanging pots and pans is a great way to store bulky kitchen ware. An added bonus is when you are done washing the pan, it can be hung up to dry.
Under the bed storage: Your bed takes up such a huge amount of space. This is a great way to get some of that space back. I ended up putting my bed on pedestals and screwing the frame to the wall so it was more stable. There is also bed frames with built in storage.

Cabinets: Tall cabinets are a great way to store a lot of stuff while still being able to close off the doors to look neat. Also, your kids and or dogs don’t get in there.
Hanging mugs: Hanging mugs in side your kitchen cabinets lets you double up mug space.

Magnetic Spice rack: I really had no good place to put my spices and I have quite a few. I ended up getting these magnetic spice racks and putting them on the fridge. They came with matching glass spice jars and printed labels. I absolutely love them and I get to have them look all fancy, matching, and alphabetical. https://amzn.to/44gUoJb
Wall mounted baskets: I was tired of having a basket of fruit on my kitchen counter. I got these fantastic baskets to put all my fruits and vegetables in. Love the organization while still out in the open so I remember to eat those bananas! https://amzn.to/4eEQZY8

Wall mounted butcher block: To be honest the real reason why I ended up screwing our butcher block to the wall was because we had a mice problem I was dealing with. I didn’t want anything on the counters and after we got the mouse problem dealt with, I loved not having anything on the counters!
Wall mounted mail organizer: My significant other would come home everyday and throw the mail on our counter….. every…. day. It drove me crazy. After way too long I finally got a mail organizer and it is absolutely worth every penny! It keeps everything so organized and we have a central place to put our keys! https://amzn.to/4lDh4cj

Storage bench: Getting a storage bench for shoes is really living on the next level. It gives you a place to sit down to take off your shoes right when you walk in the door. Having one place to go to get your shoes is definitely needed in a house with so many people and keeps things clutter free! I use my moms old cedar chest but I also have this storage bench that I really like. https://amzn.to/4nv4Lk1
File cabinet nightstands: This idea actually came from my significant other wanting 2 large drawers in his night stand for all of his stuff. I went to a thrift store looking for matching nightstands and found 2 wooden filing cabinets and thought that was as big of drawers as he’s going to get! I actually use the bottom drawer of my night stand as a file drawer because we don’t have an office.

Hanging door organizer: These are great for added storage that is out of sight (for the most part). I have one of these hanging door organizers in our nursery. I like it because it has large shelves for diapers and Velcro stickies on the back so it doesn’t flop around when you open and close the door. https://amzn.to/44z8VyR
Wall mounted mirror/ jewelry box: What more could you want than all of your jewelry neatly organized inside a mirror? Maybe you have larger goals than I do but I absolutely love my mirror jewelry box! This is the one I have and its able to hang on the wall or a door and it locks! https://amzn.to/3IeYQ2w

Wall mounted medicine cabinet: If you are low on cabinet space, you might just have to add a medicine cabinet. I got one mainly for locking up our medicines from curious little hands. However, it’s just really nice to have a central, organized location for a specific thing. This is the one we have and I really like it! https://amzn.to/4ksZlDE
Mounting TV on the wall: Honestly I really like putting everything on the walls to get it out of my way! I don’t want a bunch of surfaces that I have to dust. I got a similar TV mount to this one which has fantastic mobility to reach me no matter where I’m at in the room! https://amzn.to/44zrSBf

Store cookbooks on top of kitchen cabinets: I definitely don’t use by cookbooks everyday so I put them up on top of my cabinets to get them out of the way.
Wall mounted lamp: Here I go again hanging everything on the walls! I really just hate things on tables. I got this wall mounted dimmable lamp and it cleared up so much space on my nightstand. This lamp also has USB ports for charging your phone! https://amzn.to/4nsGn2u

Attic and crawlspace storage: Don’t forget about storing rarely used items in your attic or crawlspace. Our crawlspace is a lot easier to get to than our attic but its all dirt and didn’t have any lights. One day I finally found the time to put down vapor barrier and installed lights (I use to be an electrician). OMG! I absolutely love having all that space! Just make sure you have things in bins if the space isn’t mouse proof.
Outdoor storage: Outdoor storage can be anything from a shed to a storage bench to a shop! We are lucky to live on an acre so we have a few out buildings. If you don’t have a lot of outdoor space there is some small plastic sheds you can buy. Also, I have a couple of these storage benches for my cushions and firewood. https://amzn.to/4eBSBBT

Wall mount soap bottles: I feel like these wall mounted soap bottle are so classy. They look so clean and you don’t have a bunch of miss matched bottles all over your tub. https://amzn.to/4lgCxYN
Under stair storage: We don’t have any stairs in our house but I’ve seen this idea before and I think its great. People put shelving or cabinets under there stairs. Stairs are such a waisted space. If your home did come with an under stairs closet, they are such a tight space to organize. I like the open shelving or cabinet idea a lot better.
